Holkna is one of the rivers of the remote northeast fjord Þistilfjörður. The fjord contains several rivers, amongst them Hafralonsa and Svalbardsa. These rivers all have similarities bred by their familiarity. They have a wild remote look about them and all have a reputation for big salmon. While Holkna may be the least known of these rivers due to the fact it has been leased by private clubs for many years it is still a great option for salmon fishing.
Holkna is fished with only two daily rods and has 27 numbered pools, many of them fantastic looking for fly fishing. It is similar to the other Þistilfjarðar rivers in that a inland foss stops all migrant fish and most of the river is in a shallow canyon. A 4×4 path leads most of the way to the falls but from the end of it you still need to walk for perhaps ten minutes. It is an enchanting area as are many of the pools along the way.
