Bruara

Bruara is the second biggest clear water river in Iceland it runs over 44 kilometers long until it runs into Hvita. It runs through a couple of lakes and has its origins high in a plateau above Laugardal. There are many beats in Bruara which sell fishing license for their land the main attraction in Bruara is the magnificent arctic char there are also salmon caught there every year and in fact there are now small smolt release program in progress and it is going to be interesting to see what happens.

But like we say the main attraction is the great char that runs everywhere in Bruara, there is plenty of char all over but there is no easy thing to get it to take the fly. The most popular beat is probably Spoastadir a fantastic couple of kilometers with plenty of pools and a lot of char but like I said it is not easy to get them to take. By far the most popular method is upstream fishing and it really does matter what kind if nymphs you use and how deep you fish them, it is best to fish the river with a knowledgeable angler for the first couple of time if you want to catch anything.

Access to the river:

Is rather easy but somewhere 4x4 is needed, the river is about 1 hour from Reykjavik.
